Online Business Ideas - Finding Your Own Niche

Author: David Fausto

Finding a business niche is one of the most crucial decisions you need to make if you want to start an internet business.

Often than not though, many have difficulty finding a niche that they can own online because they are trumped by the idea that they "don't know anything" worth starting a business about.

Listed below are three things to think about to help you generate some ideas for a startup business.

1) Know Your Hobbies
What you do in your spare time is a good place to start looking for ideas for an online business.

This is however often overlooked by many. "It's only a hobby," you say. And since hobbies are what we do for fun, we often think it's not possible to make a business out of it.

But this is what makes a good business. It's something that you are passionate about. Something that you can easily write about and definitely something you'll have no problem recommending to others.

2) Know What You're Good At
We often associate "being an expert" with having studied a field for a long time or being a consultant, and if you are, great! You've got a business right at the tip of your nose.

But for many of us, this just isn't the case.

Fret Not! You may be an expert but don't know it just yet.

Have a look at your own life or the experiences you've had because you might just find a niche patiently waiting to be found.

Here are some ideas:
Do you live in an interesting town?
Do you give great parties that people always talk about
Do you make creative photos?
Did you plan and coordinate your garden wedding all by yourself?
Do you have a child with special needs?

Once you've looked at your own experience. Find something that any person who is going through the same experience would like to know. And generate ideas from there.

3) Is There A Gap In The Market That You Can Fill?
Look at other successful businesses and see if there is any product in that market that is not being filled. Don't attempt to compete with Ebay, Amazon, or Expedia. It's most likely going to be a useless pursuit online.

Instead of starting a website about beach destinations worldwide, why not start one about romantic inns in your town?

Instead of starting a business about all beauty products, consider one that's focused only on olive oil based beauty products.
