How To Get Rid Of Skunk Odor

Author: John Coutts

The question of how to get rid of skunk smell is one that many unfortunate people have asked over the centuries. There are bad smells, then there are skunk smells. But it's not like the skunk doesn't give warning. When they feel threatened they will stamp their feet, hiss and adopt a high-tail attitude -- all clear visible signs that a spraying attack may be imminent. But if you still get sprayed, Here are a few useful tips:

1. Don't bother to bathe in tomato juice. It doesn't work very well and it's expensive besides. The use of tomato juice for skunk odor is well established in the minds of many people, but the reality is that it's not worth it.

2. Don't bother to wash down or spray affected areas with citrus juice from either lemons or oranges. Again, this doesn't work, it's time consuming and probably more expensive than it's worth.

3. Don't bother wasting your time using any kind of masking agent to cover up the stink. The common ones are sweet-smelling perfumes, or something like Fabreze. These are expensive and they won't work. You might get a slightly different smell, but it will still be predominantly skunk!

So what should you do? Well, there are recipes that certainly do work. You can usually get the end product from a number of outlets, many available online. Skunks belong to the family Mephitidae and the order Carnivora. They are small mammals with black and white fur. As a final defensive measure the skunk will turn its back to the predator and spray a scent from near its anus up to 10 feet away with deadly accuracy. The best advice for how to get rid of skunk odor, is run before you need to!
